Road Test

I could tell you many stories of how blisters have affected me while travelling, from  sightseeing in Japan and covering a Formula One race in the UK. Although any new shoes or boots can cause blisters, a new pair trainers is top of the list of offenders for me, along with extremely humid weather which can cause chaffing or rubs from sandals I wear all the time. But there’s a new product available called Blister Balm which claims that it can help to prevent shoe chaffing. Intrigued? With my blister history you bet I was! And a southeast Queensland summer was the perfect opportunity to road test the product. Ideal for women or men, Blister Balm has a unique waxy formulation which, when applied to high-friction areas of the feet such as toes, heels, instep and outstep, it aims to ease discomfort, as well as protect from infection and help to repair skin. The formula contains bees wax, mango butter and isopropyl myristate, which combine to create a protective emollient to nourish and hydrate skin, while also acting as a barrier between the shoe and the affected area. Blister Balm is best used as a preventative measure as soon as, or prior to, skin sensitivity occurring, and it’s easy to apply as it comes in a stick similar to a lip balm. To test it I wore a pair of fitness thongs which always rub a spot between my left foot big toe and second toe in humid weather. I applied the balm, slipped on the thongs and took off for a long walk. It doesn’t usually take long to feel the chaffing begin, but in this case nothing happened Result!
