Road Test
Over the years, on and off, I’ve taken supplements especially for my skin, hair and nails, but in the past couple of years, and for a variety of reasons, I’ve decided to add something permanently to my daily regime. Although most of us are somewhat guilty of being mostly focussed on ageing from the perspective of how our skin alone looks, it’s also natural for our nails and hair to deteriorate as the years pass. Hair not only loses its pigment, turning white or grey, but also loses thickness and lustrousness, and it can become more brittle. And when it comes to nails, they can become weaker and more prone to breaking, as well as looking dull and discoloured. Natural ageing aside, travelling frequently can also put your skin, hair and nails under stress, from changes in climate to spending more time in the sun or in chlorinated water. While using good quality skin, hair and nail products is a must, it’s also important to nourish all three from the inside. And this is where a product such as DMK’s EFA Ultra can really help. Formulated with a powerful blend of plant based essential fatty acids (called EFAs), seaweed extract, vitamins, minerals and amino acids, EFA Ultra is designed to improve your overall health longterm. I discovered DMK, a paramedical skin care brand, over a decade ago when researching my first book, Forty And Still Fabulous. A pioneer in customised, prescription based skin care, the brand has a focus on improving the long-term health of the skin, not just quick fixes, and it offers a range of skin care treatment products designed to remove dead cell build-up, followed by rebuilding, protecting, and maintaining skin health. EFA Ultra is a new weapon in its product range, containing 190 nutrients and bioactive substances sourced from plant based ingredients. If you are not sure what EFAs are, they are components essential for good health and needed for the normal, healthy functioning of cells and various body processes. Unfortunately, however, the body cannot make most of them, or has a limited capacity to do so, which means we have to get them through the foods we eat, or take them in supplement form. The supplement EFA Ultra contains some power packed ingredients including vitamin E, fucoidan (derived from Tasmanian Mekabu seaweed), sea buckthorn oil, evening primrose oil and coconut oil, all proven superfoods and rich in EFAs. Together they work to nourish the body and maintain skin health by reducing moisture loss and supporting skin health on a day-to-day basis, however, taking them daily will also help protect you against environmental and lifestyle changes and choices, such as travel. Just a few weeks after I started taking EFA Ultra I noticed improvements in my skin, hair and nails. My skin especially looked much more hydrated, even after cleansing, my nails were definitely stronger, my hair was more glossy, and both were growing faster. The capsules are also easy to swallow, with no after taste and you just need two per day, making them great for everyone including anyone who travels a lot - no powders, shakes or liquids.

DMK Is Great
I've used DMK for a few years after my skin went crazy and it now looks great. Only downside is the cost, and the fact that you have to see a beautician to get the right products. I haven't heard of this as an addition to my regime but reckon it would be worth it.

EFAs are great
EFAs are great for the skin and can really make a difference especially as you age and if you have skin problems. The only downside of these are that you can only buy them at salons, and they will probably want you to buy the skincare too!

Do They Really Work?
You read a lot about supplements.....ones that we should take, ones that are expensive, and often dietitians tell us we should get all our requirements from food instead.
