Vitamin C has been a part of my daily beauty regime for as long as I can remember, but taking it on the road can be fraught with issues. The big problem with this key ingredient in beauty products is that it can be unstable and “go off”, and although this won’t necessary damage your skin in any way, the product you may have paid big bucks for won’t be doing it what it promises either. My preference for using vitamin C was a pure powder formula which you can mix with water or a gentle toner, but I have recently been swayed by Obagi Professional-C Serum. The formula is not only in liquid form and stable, but Obagi has created the treatment in three strengths to suit people with different types of skin, or with different needs. The serum has some key ingredients including L-ascorbic acid, a type of vitamin C which neutralises free radicals through different layers of the skin, as a result preventing skin damage at the cellular level and slowing down the process of ageing. The liquid formula is also an antioxidant protecting the skin from ultraviolet rays of the sun, while also fighting inflammation, brighting your complexion, and reducing wrinkles and fine lines. Also great for travellers, it contains hydration helpers to keep the skin soft and healthy throughout the day.
When it comes to the different strengths, Obagi Professional-C Serum 10% is suitable for sensitive and dry skin, and if you’re starting out with a vitamin C beauty regime. At 15% concentration, performance should be upped a tad, and it will suit most skin types, while the highest concentration, which is 20%, is aimed for normal and oily skin, and anyone who has been using a high grade vitamin C for some time. All three strengths of the serum come in a small bottle with a dropper, which is super convenient for travellers. To use it is easy. Just apply five to seven drops daily to a throughly cleansed face, neck, and chest, using your fingertips followed by a quality moisturiser and sunscreen. If you want to keep things in the family, you can add a range of other vitamin C products from the Obagi range. Obagi is a skin prescription line and for good reason; its products are high quality, active and have high concentrations of ingredients so it is best you seek professional advice if you are a newbie. Obagi Professional-C Serums cost rrp $69.95 for the 10% concentration, $79.95 for the 15% concentration, and $99.95 for the 20% concentration. Available from cosmetic clinics, dermatologists and plastic surgeons. For more information visit www.obagi.net.au.
