Road Test
Although I have professional facials each year, being time poor, and travelling frequently, I also perform regular facials at home. This not only saves me time, but also money; good salon facials can definitely make a large dent in your wallet. I’ve always been a fan of facials for a lineup of reasons, in part because they restore life, buoyancy, and resilience to your skin unlike anything else. What I do in a home facial largely depends on what I feel my skin needs at the time, and the season, but there are three basic steps which always apply. For example, if you are going to use a face mask, you want to be sure to prep the skin beforehand so it will be free of dead skin cells to better absorb the key nutrients. And after using a face mask it’s important to sooth and protect the skin, and seal in all the good work your mask has done - as well as close pores. Fortunately for today’s home facial consumers, there are good quality products on the market designed for home use which do what they promise.
The cult skin care brand, Enbacci, has a basics collection which includes three key supporting staples to use in your skincare regime, and as part of a great home facial. They are Microdermabrasion Exfoliating Scrub, Detoxifying Clay Mask, and Pore Minimiser. Each one can be used independently or part of Enbacci’s 3-step masking system. Step 1 of an Enbacci facial is to use the scrub. After cleansing, to prep the skin for a mask, Microdermabrasion Exfoliating Scrub gently polishes and smooths the skin for a brighter, more radiant complexion. Key ingredients in the scrub include a shea butter formulation which is rich in vitamins A, E and F, and oleic, stearic, palmitic and linoleic fatty acids. This scrub will refresh the skin’s texture without being harsh or causing moisture loss, while also soothing blemishes, and evening out skin tone. To use it add a small amount to damp fingertips, apply to the skin with circular motions, then wash off with warm water.
Step 2 is the mask, which aims to deeply clean pores and replenish the skin with B-complex and E vitamins. Detoxifying Clay Maskhas a balanced combination of kaolin and bentonite clay combined with naturally derived humectants including macadamia oil, jojoba oil and Shea butter. The mask removes dirt, toxins and sebum from clogged pores, it nourishes with hydrating monounsaturated fatty acids and omegas, it helps to reduce breakouts and it calms aggravated skin. To use, apply a decent layer to the skin, relax for 10-15 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. The final step aims to seal in the mask’s nutrients and refine the appearance of pores. Pore Minimiser’s formula includes tea tree oil rich in the regenerative compound, terpinen-4-ol which helps to fight acne bacteria and promote skin healing. Meanwhile sorbitol is a humectant which prevents moisture loss, and serine, a skin conditioning amino acid, helps to strengthen the skin’s hydration barrier while also improving firmness and elasticity.
