Essential Male Grooming

I don’t normally write about “beauty” products, even though I admit to using a variety of items on my skin and hair on a daily basis. Male grooming is big business, however, and there’s a lot that us blokes like and dislike when it comes to what we use. There is new trio of products from De Lorenzo, called the DMan Grooming Kit, which addresses day-to-day grooming needs for men, and which I was asked to try and review. The trio includes a Shampoo (rrp $24.95), a Shave Cream (rrp $19.95) and a Pomade (rrp $24.95). The shampoo is a peppermint enriched deep cleanser designed for daily use to remove oil and product build up in the hair. It smells great, and lathers up easily, and the peppermint formulation is cooling and calming for the scalp. It also doesn’t fluff my curly hair up too much, which is something I don’t like. Although I generally opt for shaving gels, the Shave Cream has a luxurious formula; you don’t need a lot to get a decent lather, and it allows the razor to pass over the skin easily for a nice, close shave. Ingredients include eucalyptus, menthol and lemon with tea tree oil, which are cooling, and provide antiseptic properties which can help with blemishes if you get them, and any nicks.

Finally, the Pomade is water based and can be used to control your hair, and is ideal for side parts, quiffs or in my case, for taming curls and slicking my hair back just a bit. It isn’t heavy or greasy, and gives your hair a touch of well-groomed shine. All three products come for a limited time in a nice, dark grey holdall, and they are ideal travel sizes which won’t take up too much space in your luggage. A fourth product I was given to try and review is PC4Men Body Wash by Paula’s Choice (rrp $22). Body wash is one of those products which for me has to be neutral in smell, or aimed purely at men; women’s body washes tend to smell too sweet, or are just too fragrant. This one is great not only because of its smell, but you can cheat and use it on your hair and face if you’re in a hurry, and it won’t leave your skin feeling dry.
