Road Test

Between a lack of time, and the departure date of your next holiday hurtling towards you, a relaxing day at the spa has never looked so tempting. I’m a big fan of DIY facial and at-home spa days, but one of the keys to getting it right, and making this time worthwhile, is using a great lineup of products which will help to you relax and your skin looking great. For me, every at-home spa event begins with a long soak, and that means using some great bath salts; something to ease tension, perhaps, but also to do your skin some good. Recently I discovered a natural line of skin care products which tick both boxes. Freya’s Nourishment is a brand I came across by accident through a friend, and I’ll be testing a number of products over the coming weeks, but first out of the blocks are its bath and foot salts. The two varieties I tried were Lavender and Frankincense, along with Rose and Pomegranate. The salts are made from Australian sea salt, Epsom salts and essential oils; they’re packed with essential minerals, and have therapeutic and rejuvenating properties. In the first variety the calming energy of lavender has been added to the salts - a favourite essential oil of mine - with the skin-renewing and antiseptic qualities of frankincense to help to tone and tighten skin. The second variety has is an exceptionally gorgeous aroma and the addition of flower petals. Rose oil in the formula promotes circulation, reduces blood pressure and keeps your skin looking radiant, while pomegranate is a free radical scavenger, while enhancing skin elasticity and promoting cell regeneration. To use the salts, simply fill a bathtub to about half with water as hot as desired and add about half a cup of the bath salts. Swirl the salts in the water to dissolve, then top up with more water as desired, step in and relax. Your body and skin will thank you for it!

Insider Tips

  • For a lazy in-bath exfoliation at the end of your soak, add a little of the salts to a body wash to exfoliate your feet and body concentrating on the soles of the feet, knees and elbows.
  • If you don’t have a bath in your home, treat yourself to a foot bath instead. Add a tablespoon or two to a basin of hot water to ease tired feet and benefit from the pure essential oils.
