Road Test
Although wine may have an incredibly long history behind it, gin has arguably the most fascinating. From medicinal use in the 1600s originating in Holland, to sparking riots in the 1700s and prohibition-era underground distilleries in the 1920s, this unusual juniper-based spirit has quite a tale to tell. From “mothers ruin” to a modern tipple, however, in recent years people all across the globe have been rediscovering gin. And this Christmas, the Wild Hibiscus Flower Company has come up with the perfect way to bring the holiday spirit to gift giving. Its latest specialty product, Gingle Bells, is something every gin and holiday season lover will covet. A gift set of six, eye-catching, floral gin baubles, each one is filled with Australian Dry Gin sourced from master distiller Reg Papps, who was named one of the top five gin distillers in the world at the 2017 World Gin Awards in London. But this gin goes further; its infused with six different natural botanicals to give them a distinctive flavour and colour. Each bauble’s botanical flavour can be seen in its centre, with an ethereal floral element encased inside. And to ensure the receiving gin lover knows exactly how best to best make use of the extraordinary flavours, there’s a collection of matching cocktail recipes included in the pack. The gift set includes two 54ml baubles at 37% alcohol volume and four 50ml baubles at 40% alcohol volume. As promised, each one has a different flavour, with a favourite being the Finger Lime Gin. Like a snow dome, you need to shake the bauble to release the lime juice balls inside; aptly, they float round like snow flakes. It makes a delicious Gin-F-Bomb as I discovered, with the lime juice balls dancing in the bubbles and popping in your mouth as you drink it. Wild Hibiscus Flower Company has been in the craft cocktail industry for over 20 years, and its Founder, Lee Etherington, is right when he says that Gingle Bells is an ideal gift for gin lovers, and anyone who’s hard to buy for, and will no doubt make lasting memories this holiday season.
