Road Test
Black Seed is a natural product which been used for thousands of years to treat a wide range of diseases and ailments. In the 1950’s a ground-breaking study by Mahfouz and Dakhany identified many of the constituents of Black Seed, in particular Thymoquinone (TQ), which is unique to Black Seed, and which a number of peer reviewed studies since have found is responsible for a large number of health promoting characteristics. In Asia and the Middle East it has been used for problems including indigestion, loss of appetite, fever, diarrhoea, chest congestion, asthma and arthritis, mainly due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. In 2010 Hab Shifa was founded to introduce Black Seed to the Australian market in a variety of forms, from supplements to hair and beauty products. I was sent a batch of goodies to test recently, many of which are ideal for travellers for a variety of reasons. Black Seed Nurturing Shampoo and Conditioner are two. Besides containing antioxidant rich Black Seed Oil, which gently cleanses your hair, the shampoo formula also contains Argan Oil to make hair shine, and nutrient rich Coconut Oil to strengthen and soften. This shampoo smells lovely, as its infused with essential oils including Geranium, Patchouli, and Lavender. Complementing the shampoo is Nurturing Conditioner, which contains a similar lineup of ingredients, and also smells delicious. Both hair products are ideal for travellers as they can be used daily, washing away salt water and cleansing away the chemicals from pool water.
For the body, options include Black Seed Revitalizing Body Wash, which cleanses and softens the skin, while also acting as a gentle exfoliator thanks to natural microfoliant beads in the formula. That’s a handy two-in-one product for travellers which smells great, infused with the essentials oils of Geranium, Rosewood and Chamomile. After bathing or showering, you can nourish your skin further with the simply gorgeous Black Seed Hydrating Moisturizing Lotion, which combines natural lipids, essential fatty acids, and special anti-irritant ingredients to help soothe the skin. Besides Black Seed Oil, the formula also contains Rosehip Oil, Shea Butter, and Aloe Vera, which are great for restoring skin elasticity and preventing moisture loss - something which can happen if you are frequently in and out of water, or in a hot climate. Infused with the essential oils of Mandarin, Bergamot, and Geranium, this lotion heals and nourishes, while leaving your skin smooth and firm. If you want to treat your insides and take Black Seed on the road with you in supplement form, there are plenty of options including Black Seed Oil, which can be taken orally, JointQ Vegecaps, and Black Seed Capsules. At home, you can use Black Seed in your cooking, adding Black Seed Oil to hot or cold drinks, or using Black Seed combined with Himalayan Salt.
