Road Test

Not too long ago if you heard the term “vegan” you’d most likely be thinking of a vegetarian diet which excludes all animal derived ingredients including meat, eggs and dairy. In recent years, however, veganism has become increasingly popular in the beauty world - in makeup, cosmetics, and now hair care. In 2016 there was a 50 per cent increase in the number of vegan beauty products launched, with beauty brands responding to the call for less animal derived ingredients and cruelty free products. And when it comes to hair care, without realising, many of us are using animal-derived products including keratin wax and lanolin, to name a few. Hot Tresses is a brand which ticks all the boxes when it comes to producing effective vegan hair care essentials. Working with a team of chemists and hairdressers, the company researched the finest hair care ingredients, experimenting with different formulations and ratios to develop its Hot Tresses Rehabilitation range. And they’re not just vegan and cruelty free, but also designed to cut chemicals, and repair damage caused by heat styling including de-frizzing hair. The three key products include a shampoo, conditioner and leave-in treatment which I used exclusively for a couple of weeks. The shampoo is especially good for curly or wavy hair which might need taming. I have short, wavy hair and found the shampoo luxurious to use; it also smelled amazing and left my hair soft and squeaky clean with no frizz. Each time I washed I also used the conditioner, which definitely boosted softness and shine. The products left my hair in such good shape it didn’t really need anything else, but a couple of times I added the leave-in treatment, applying it as a third step and leaving it in my hair overnight. If your hair is need of a boost, and you are looking to reduce chemicals and animal ingredients, this is definitely a brand to check out.
