Recently, Lipault collaborated with the iconic French designer Jean Paul Gaultier on a new and exclusive range of luggage. Gaultier is famous for being the “l'enfant terrible" of fashion, thanks to a penchant for challenging the then-standard views of fashion, and this new luggage collection fuses that spirit along with Lipault’s practicality and love of life.

Lipault X Jean Paul Gaultier is a complete collection of twelve unisex pieces, coming in black and burgundy, and adored with the Parisian designer’s logo embossed on a stylish metal plate. The pieces merge two of Gaultier's favourite themes, pinstripes and the conical-breasted corset, which is clearly evident in the 55cm black spinner case I was sent to road test. This case is sleek, and it simply looks good, made from a durable material which is 90 per cent polyester and 10 per cent nylon (making it easy to keep clean), and weighing just 2.4 kilos empty. Exterior features include a generous, zipped front pocket, handles on the top and side, a retractable handle for wheeling, a stylish luggage tag, and 360 degree multidirectional spinner wheels for easy manoeuvrability. Beyond the classic exterior, however, is an unexpected rich gold interior styled in a luxurious, satin-like fabric. Alluring features here include a volume of 37.5 litre, a mesh pocket located inside the lid ideally suited to laundry, a generous zipped pouch for small items, and set of straps complete with fasteners reminiscent of Gaultier’s legendary bustier to keep your possessions neatly in place.
