After years of being a French manicure devotee I eventually turned to colour. Even though I passed art at school, however, I am not the best with nail painting, so if I am going to get the job done half well, I need two things; a quality polish to work with, and one which is going to last. After all, if it’s going to take me half an evening to achieve nicely painted nails, I don’t want to have to repeat the process every week. Especially when I am travelling. I heard about Vinylux a while back, intending to road test its claims. One is that it’s a weekly polish offering seven-day chip resistant wear with a brilliant shine (like a Shellac polish), and another being that it’s fast drying and a simple two-step application. One week of wear? Personally I didn’t think that was much to crow about given other products on the market, however, according to my nail technician you can easily get two or more weeks from a single polish in her experience. And her clients love it. I decided to grab a colour - there are more than 100 to choose from - and treat my toenails to a DIY polish job after a home manicure.
The colour Hollywood is a gorgeous warm red with a hint of pink and shimmer in it, and from the get go I couldn’t believe how easy doing a home polish with this product was. For a start the brush was top quality and the product wasn’t too thick, and it has a base coat built into it so all you have to do is apply one coat of polish to clean nails, followed by a second, then apply the Vinylux top coat. My nails looked shiny and fabulous in a matter of minutes, and the promise of them being quick drying was also real; 20 minutes later and they were good to go, although I reckon they’d dried even faster. My road test lasted over three weeks; eventually my nails started to lose their lustre and a few chips began to appear. But they’d also lasted multiple trips to the beach barefoot, and two trips away driving long distances in shoes. It performance was impressive, and will be ideal for anyone travelling who’s after long lasting colour, but the Vinylux polish was also easy to remove and didn’t leave my nails looking parched or dry. If you’re looking for a Shellac-style finish for your next trip, and you want something which is easy to apply, easy to remove and lasts the distance, this is the product for you.
CND Vinylux polishes are sold at a variety of outlets nationally. You can find your nearest retailer by visiting www.cndshop.com.au, and the cost of a bottle is $19.95.
