Melbourne is often referred to as one of the greatest cities in the world; this is no surprise, as Melbourne is a destination that has something special for everyone. Still curious about the reasons why you should visit Melbourne? Discover some of the city’s most exciting attractions and ideas for accommodation below!

Street Art Central

Anyone who loves street art will feel right at home in Melbourne, as this is one of the world’s biggest street art hubs. The city is also the home of Hosier Lane, which has countless picturesque galleries. There are a number of possibilities for hotels near Flinders lane, all in walking distance to your chosen arty destinations. While visiting Melbourne, tourists can take advantage of the well-known Melbourne streets tour, which lets them get familiar with the social and political aspects of street art. From outdoor and indoor galleries to graffiti masterpieces, Melbourne has it all. During a visit to Melbourne, art lovers also have to take in the National Gallery of Victoria. Inside the gallery, you can witness 70,000 pieces of art, which span over two different locations. Art lovers who are interested in the international art collection can head to the National Gallery of Victoria at St. Kilda Road. The building was opened to the public in 1968 and received an extensive renovation in 2003. Would you prefer the Australian collection? Head over to the Ian Potter Gallery in Federation Square, which is also a part of the National Gallery of Victoria. During your visit, you can encounter anything from Aboriginal works to contemporary art.

Beach Day At St. Kilda

Beach lovers can visit Melbourne for the world-famous beach of St. Kilda. The beach site has more to offer than just water and sand though, as the area also houses roller coasters, bakeries, hipster cafes, boutique hotels and even a dedicated area for rollerblading.

Appreciate Nature At The Royal Botanic Gardens

Nature lovers will undoubtedly find something spectacular in Melbourne, as the Royal Botanic Gardens are situated in the city too. Stretching all the way south to the Yarra River and located only two kilometres from the central business district, the Royal Botanic Gardens are a sight that cannot be missed. Many tourists are not aware of the fact that the Royal Botanic Gardens actually span over two areas, more specifically Melbourne and Cranbourne. The gardens are home to 8500 species of plants, which include some rare plants you will not easily find anywhere else. Nature lovers are not the only tourists who can have a great time at the Royal Botanic Gardens, as this attraction also houses the Ian Potter Foundation Children’s Garden, where children can learn more about nature and gardening. The Seasons Botanic Gardens apartments are a great option if travelling with kids. There is an indoor pool and extra roll out beds if needed. So, whether you are coming to Melbourne for the impressive landscape or whether you are on a family holiday, the Royal Botanic Gardens guarantee a great day out.

The National Sports Museum and Melbourne Cricket Ground For Sports Fanatics

Anyone obsessed with sports tends to travel to Melbourne regularly, since Melbourne is the sporting capital of Australia. Of course, this also includes some amazing sports attractions, including one of the biggest sports stadiums in the world. The Melbourne Cricket Ground has a long history and dates all the way back to 1853. The grounds have a capacity of 100,000 people and was the stadium where the 1956 Olympic Games and the 2006 Commonwealth Games were held. Being one of the larger cities, there is an array of hotels near many of the sporting grounds you wish to attend. You should easily be able to find a room before any major event. During your visit, you might be able to jump into the daily 75-minute tours that take place on the grounds. The tour takes you along the National Sports Museum, the Australian Gallery of Sport, and even the Olympic Museum for good measure!

Family-Friendly Visit To The Melbourne Zoo

The Melbourne Zoo is a must-see attraction for families. During your visit, you can experience more than 320 species of animals; this all on the grounds of a zoo that has been around since 1862. Despite the age of the zoo grounds itself, Melbourne Zoo still contains some of the most modern facilities for its animals. The Zoo has also won an award for their Trial of the Elephants, which provides guests with detailed information on elephants. When you visit the Melbourne Zoo, you cannot forget to take the entire family to the Orang-Utan Sanctuary either, where you can witness countless treetop homes. Booking your accommodation near Melbourne Zoo will make it an experience that will stay with you and the kids forever.

Walking the botanic gardens is one of my favourite things to do in Melbourne - my kids are there so I visit often. It's such a tranquil place and safe too.
