Road Test

The press release heading had me intrigued: “How Using The Wrong Exfoliator Can Damage Your Skin”. Like most women I love using facial scrubs to slough away dead skin cells, but over the years I’ve learned exactly this lesson. Some scrubs are too harsh or abrasive and can cause more problems than they solve including redness and breakouts, so an exfoliator from the natural skincare brand, MooGoo, was something I had to investigate. MooGoo has been around for 13 years, treating a variety of skin issues with natural ingredients, and today it has a range of almost 50 products from cleansers to sunscreens. The new Gentle Exfoliating Power is one of the latest. It works by dissolving dead skin cells using a combination of rice bran powder and Salicylic Acid, a plant derived beta hydroxy acid, to gently dissolve the glue-like substance that holds the dead skin cells in place, while Bentonite Clay draws out impurities and Marshmallow Root helps to sooth and calm the skin. Using it is easy. Just take a little of the powder into wet hands and form a paste, adding more water if needed to make it spread across the skin easily. Then massage into the skin in circular motions, rinse off and pat your skin dry. The paste smells nice, and it did an excellent job, without irritating the skin and leaving it smooth to the touch. For anyone with sensitivity, or mature skin, or you just love your natural skincare, this is a terrific option.

Beauty In Travel Loves

  • The powder is easy to travel with - if you don’t want to take the entire thing, just put some in a smaller tub enough for how many uses you might need.
  • For a more intense result you can leave the paste on your skin for five minutes as a masque.

Insider Tips

  • Add plenty of water when making the paste so it’s not too thick - make a little and add more as necessary.
  • For added convenience use in the shower.
