Situated within a private reserve within the Pilanesberg National Park, Morokolo Game Lodge provides a true African wildlife experience as well as top quality accommodation.
- Location: Inside the Black Rhino Game Reserve, Pilanesberg.
- Accommodations: The lodge has spacious, thatched double and family suites, all with their own facilities and featuring a traditional style and palette of colours. The suites are situated around five metres apart, and face the same way, so that both privacy and a feeling of isolation are preserved.
- Dining options: Included in the accommodation rate is breakfast and dinner, as well as high tea before the afternoon game drive. Breakfast is served in the adjacent Black Rhino lodge while the afternoon tea and dinner are served in the dining area. Both main meals are top quality buffet style, with the dinner featuring traditional cuisine as well as exotic game dishes such as ostrich or buck.
- What else is there: The central lodge is a communal building with a TV lounge, a bar and dining area. The lodge opens onto a small pool and BBQ area, and an area called a ‘Boma’ which is African for a place surrounding a fire pit.
- What’s nearby: The resort is only about 30 minutes’ drive from Sun City, which is located on the southern entrance to the park, and has shopping, two world class golf courses, bars, restaurants, a man-made beach with a large wave pool, outdoor activities such as rock climbing and a casino.
- Why go: It’s a secluded luxury game lodge situated in the Black Rhino Reserve in Pilanesberg, ideal for a romantic getaway while exploring this region of South Africa.
The Space
Recently opened, this lovely lodge has a collection of modern thatched roof suites, so if you prefer to sleep in a king size bed in a suite, rather than a camping cot in a tent, as some wildlife experiences offer, this type of lodge is an excellent choice. Morokolo is also located in the northwest corner of the park which means it is secluded, and far enough away from the throngs of day trippers visiting other regions in the Pilanesberg National Park. This also means virtually exclusive wildlife viewing on game drives. The park itself has an abundance of wildlife including the ‘Big 5’ as well as a multitude of other species. It nestles within the remnants of an extinct volcano, the result of which is a terrain of undulating hills and valleys, and various types of bush and foliage which provide habitats for a wide variety of animals.
Where We Stayed
We were allocated the outermost double suite on the property, but the clever arrangement of the accommodations makes it feel like you are alone in the bush - until you step out on the verandah. Like all the accommodations, our suite had a large bathroom featuring large marble bathtub, as well as indoor and outdoor showers. The room comes with free Wi-Fi access, tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer, bathroom amenities and well located electrical outlets. Our luxurious king size bed faced glass doors with a view of the expansive African bush.
