If you haven’t heard of retinol, it appears in a variety of products and can help visibly diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles, increase the appearance of firmness, improve uneven skin tone, and smooth and refine the surface of skin. It’s found in a range of products from moisturisers to cleansers, but in the form of a light cream it’s ideal for travelling - you can use it when you need to, but not all the time if you don’t. Obagi has two concentrations of its new 360 Retinol product, 0.5 and 1.0 strength. Both are very effective, but also gentle, with minimal redness or peeling, which can happen when you start out using them, meaning they can work for sensitive skin. They also work hand-in-hand with Obagi 360 Exfoliating Cleanser (reviewed recently), which is a master at deep cleansing the skin including clogged pores. As I am used to using retinol products I was sent the 1.0 concentration to test. It comes in a compact tube with a pump, and on application it feels as light as a lotion. A few dabs of the cream go a long way towards covering the face and neck, being careful around the eye area, and within a few minutes it has melted into the skin. The cream has somewhat of a “clinical” aroma, but this dissipates within 10 minutes of being on your skin. In the short term, use it daily and your skin will feel almost immediately smooth and soft, enhanced by another ingredient it contains, shea butter. Long term, however, your skin will feel firmer, smoother, and appear more even toned, with lines definitely softened.
