If your feet are not looking at their best this summer, or before a trip, using a foot peel is one way to go to get them back into shape. But as I discovered they’re not for the feint of heart. Here’s why.
- What Is It: A foot mask which peels away dry and dead skin.
- Why buy: It’s easy to use, it promises to leave your skin soft and deeply moisturised, it’s inexpensive.
- The Details: Skin Republic Foot Peel costs $15.99 for one use, available from www.theskinrepublic.com.au, Woolworths, Coles, Priceline, Big W and various other pharmacies nationwide.
Road Test
I spent a lot of time beach walking, and I don’t wear shoes at home, or anything on my feet during the warmer months, which in southeastern Queensland means about eight months of the year. As a result, it can be a challenge to keep the skin of my feet looking good and well moisturised while avoiding dryness and cracks. Then I heard about Skin Republic’s new foot peel; containing alpha hydroxy acids, it promises to remove dead skin after a mere seven days. The peel contains a lineup of ingredients with no less than 15 plant extracts, including ginkgo biloba, green tea and vitamin E, all of which combine to treat your feet, intensely moisturise them, and leave them feeling soft and silky smooth post-peel. The peel also helps remove or at least soften calluses and rough skin, transforming rough dry feet and heels. I’d been reading what consumers had been saying about the peel last year, with most raving about it, and some admitting that using it was a bit “gross” at the peeling stage, so I decided to take the plunge and tried one before the Christmas holidays got into full swing. I picked an afternoon when I was home alone, and applied it as directed. The Skin Republic Foot Peel treatment comes in a pair of plastic, all-sizes booties which you wear on clean, dry feet for a minimum of 90 minutes and up to two hours to kickstart the exfoliation process. In order to move around a bit without slipping over, I took the advice of another reviewer and slipped a pair of socks over the booties, wore them for close to two hours to really give my feet and boost, and waited. After the treatment I removed the booties, washed the residue off and applied a foot balm. Nothing much happened at all for about four or five days, but one morning I woke up, hopped out of bed, and my feet were seriously peeling all over, even on top! It took at least another week before the peeling subsided and during the process the soles of my feet were a little tender, but at the end I treated them to some body scrub in the shower, followed by foot balm, and my feet were looking good as new.

Insider Tips
- Timing is essential. Make sure you plan when you are going to do the peel, as your feet won’t look pretty while the peeling process is underway, so before summer, or a few weeks before a special event or a trip are all great options.
- Try not to move around too much while wearing the booties, even if you have socks over them, and place a towel under your feet while you have the booties on, in case of any leaks.

Awesome Product
I use these every couple of months year round, they're great.

Brilliant
Got this back in November as the hot weather kicked in and my feet needed some TLC. It takes ages for the stuff to work and it's not pretty when the peeling starts but I reckon it's worth it! Cheap too :)

Not Great
Bought this foot mask to use before Christmas...maybe I didn't wear the boots for long enough but I didn't feel therre was much difference, just a bit of peeling a few days later.
