Road Test
Just recently, Hawaii became the first US state to ban the sale of sunscreens containing two common chemicals because of their potentially damaging impact on coral reefs; the new law goes into effect on January 1, 2021. The chemicals in question, oxybenzone and octinoxate, are found in many popular sunscreens, and while the rest of the world isn’t as quick to follow Hawaii’s example, including Australia, a favourite skincare company has done the the job for them. The natural skincare brand, Sukin, has recently put oxybenzone and octinoxate on its famous NO LIST, adding them to a lineup of other chemical nasties including sulphates, animal derivatives and mineral oils. This means that none of its products contain either of the banned chemicals. Sukin has also launched a new range of facial sunscreens to back up its own ban, which not only pack SPF30 protection for your skin, but are also designed to protect the oceans. SPF30 Sheer Touch Tinted Facial Sunscreen is non-greasy and it won’t leave a sticky white residue on the face. It is also designed to be worn daily, regardless of the weather. The formula contains a natural, antioxidant-rich blend of rose hip oil, green tea and cucumber, all of which nourish the skin, along with zinc oxide to provide the UVA and UVB broad spectrum protection. The sunscreen is a delight to use. It’s silky smooth, it blends well with your natural skin tone (just pick the right shade), it smells lovely and fresh, and as I also discovered, it applies like a normal moisture leaving your skin with a natural looking glow. Although there’s no such thing as a 100 per cent “natural sunscreen”, this new Sukin sunscreen uses minerals to block the sun and is about as close as you will currently get.

Insider Tips
- To apply properly, shake and knead the tube before use. Apply a generous amount of sunscreen to a clean face 20 minutes before sun exposure, and remember to reapply every two hours or more frequently if you are sweating, and/or you are swimming as it isn’t water resistant.
