There is a wide variety of accommodation choices for couples who want to escape to Thredbo for a romantic weekend of skiing, but if you’re looking for something stylish and no fuss, check out The Denman.
- Location: In the heart of Thredbo Village on Diggins Terrace.
- Accommodations: There is a wide variety of room types from single rooms for solo skiers, to family rooms and king and queen bed rooms for couples.
- Dining options: The Terrace Restaurant was the first Australian Ski resort venue to be awarded a Chef’s Hat at the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide Awards. Today it still delivers a true gourmand’s experience in an atmosphere that really captures the Snowy Mountain experience, with a focus is on fresh regional cuisine presented in an elegant and contemporary menu.
- What else is there: The Après Bar is a lovely space which and the place to go after a day on the slopes or hiking; it’s more “Sex and the City” than traditional cozy ski lodge bar. The Library Bar is a new addition to the lineup, offering drinks, nibbles, board games and a space to enjoy before or after dinner. The hotel is also home of the Edelweiss Day Spa which offers a range of treatments from remedial massage to organic facials.
- What’s nearby: Thredbo Village is on your doorstep - the stairs to Village Square are directly opposite - also the chairlifts, restaurants and bars, and further afield, Kosciuszco National Park.
- Why go: The Denman is not your typical ski field lodge so if you’re looking for something contemporary and metropolitan with no fuss, a convenient location, fine dining and a spa on site, it ticks all the boxes.
The Space
Situated just behind the heart of Thredbo Village, The Denman is a boutique hotel which has become something of an institution in the Australian ski fields thanks to its contemporary funky feel and a fine restaurant. During the winter ski season it’s a short walk down to the main Valley Terminal, which connects to the best runs in Thredbo, while in summer, The Denman is a good base for exploring and hiking the Kosciuszco National Park. The building has been welcoming visitors since 1962, and embraces the legacy of an older style ski chalet, with welcoming accommodation, and retaining many features from its heritage.
Where We Stayed
As a true boutique hotel, no room style or layout is the same - and this goes for the Denman. Some are described as “snug” which are fine for solo travellers, or couples who are going to be out and about all the time, while the best accommodations are the larger ones, especially the king balcony rooms, some which come with views of the ski fields. Our home for a weekend was one of these; it was spacious and comfortable with a balcony and great views, fitted out with a simple, contemporary decor featuring blonde wood, biscuit coloured drapes and carpeting, with a splash of colour including a navy cushion on the bed.
