Road Test

Like many women, during lockdown last year I spent a lot of time online, reading up on the latest innovations in skincare and as a result I decided to tweak my beauty regime just a little bit. The main thing I decided was to add a new serum to my anti-ageing arsenal - hyaluronic acid. If you haven’t heard of it before, hyaluronic acid is a clear, almost gooey substance which is naturally produced by your body, with the largest amounts found in your skin, connective tissue and eyes. The main purpose of this substance is retaining water, which helps to keep your tissues well hydrated, and as a result it’s become a key ingredient in skincare, found in all manner of products from serums to skin-plumping injections. Besides good hydration being essential for healthy skin, it also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, but hyaluronic acid has another benefit, in that it helps with wound healing and easing inflammation. Although I’ve used many products in the past containing hyaluronic acid, I hadn’t used a dedicated serum until I tried one from the cult beauty brand, The Ordinary. Its Hyaluronic Acid 2% serum, which I picked up in Priceline and is surprisingly affordable, is not only vegan but also comes with the added bonus vitamin B5, another efficient anti-inflammatory and skin hydrator. It’s also easy to use; simply apply a few drops to cleansed skin morning and night before using a moisturiser. When I tried the product for the first time I wasn’t sure what to expect. In the morning I applied it after a vitamin C serum, and a night after a vitamin A serum, and it had lovely consistency, it melted into the skin quickly, and it produced immediate results. From first use my skin felt firm, plump and hydrated, even in the heat and humidity of a southeast Queensland summer, and some days I didn’t need to follow up with a moisturiser. Several months on and The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 is a key part of my beauty regime; I won’t start or end the day, or travel, without it.

I added HA to my beauty regime a year ago and it made a huge difference. I don't use this one but will look at it next time as it's much cheaper than the one I'm using right now. Thanks for sharing.

I was travelling in England before covid when I discovered this brand. Largely great products and cheap. I haven't tried this one to be honest but I think I will now!
