Avène Eau Thermal is a brand which has been around for years, in fact I used to use its famous Thermal Spring Water spray when I was travelling intensely between the UK and USA years ago. Hailing from Southern France, Avène is a village in the Orb Valley where the soothing properties of its local thermal spring water were discovered back in the 1700s. People flocked to the small French village to heal themselves of various skin ailments using hydrotherapy, and over the years a skin care brand evolved using Avène Thermal Spring Water as a key ingredient. It’s rich in calcium, silica and trace elements, which means its kind to skins, especially sensitive or troubled skin. The Thermal Spring Water (rrp $25.95 for 300ml) is a hero product; it’s naturally soothing and softening, and can cleanse the skin as well as calm irritation. Ideal for travellers, it also comes in a handy 50ml size ideal for slipping into a handbag or carry on bag.
New to the Avène lineup, however, is the Cold Cream range, which has been specially formulated to restore the hydrolipid film in sensitive dry to very dry skins. The Cold Cream Lip Balm ($23.95) will rescue cracked lips for a variety of reasons which can include cold weather, soothing and protecting throughout the day (it lasts up to 8 hours) and it contains vitamins E and F. It is a terrific product which feels lovely on the lips and is both hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic. A great sister product to this is the Cold Cream Hand Cream ($24.95), which is a non-greasy, nourishing and hydrating hand cream suitable for all skin types, and it comes in a 50ml size which is ideal for women on the go. As with all Avène products a key ingredient is the thermal spring water. You can buy Avène products from chemists nationwide, including Priceline, Chemist Warehouse and Terry Whites.
