Hard shell luggage and carry on bags have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in recent years for good reason. For one, due to the development of new materials, they are no longer so heavy when empty or packed, and they’re also no longer prone to damage so easily.

We were given a Global Carry-On for this review, and loved it for a variety of reasons. The Etherius Collection is made from 100% pure Bayer polycarbonate, which makes the cases break resistant and they have a scratch-resistant matt finish, and corner guards on the areas most prone to impact. This polycarbonate makes the cases an alluring combination of ultra-strong yet ultra-light, with the Global Carry-On weighing just 2.8 kg. Ideal for business and leisure travellers alike, the construction of these hard side cases makes them perfect for any lifestyle and anyone on the go. They move easily thanks to four premium Hinomoto wheels, which are renowned for their smooth movement and stability, while the comfort-grip, one-touch handle can be set at three different positions, with a separate top haul handle for easy lifting. Inside the cases, two divider walls allow travellers to separate their possessions for efficient packing, while Y-shaped compression straps help keep ironed clothing wrinkle-free. Additionally, a zippered expansion system offers extra capacity, which means up to 27 per cent more volume in the Global Carry-On - a real bonus for anyone who can’t travel too light. Security is also a key consideration, coming in the form of an integrated TSA combination lock.

The Verdict:

When it comes to protecting the essentials, whether you’re travelling for business or pleasure, the Victorinox Etherius Metallics range ticks all the boxes.
